Early life

Born Balakrishna Menon, Swami Chinmayananda was born on May 8, 1916, in Ernakulam, Kerala, India. His early life was quite ordinary, marked by a secular upbringing. He attended St. Thomas College in Trichur and later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lucknow University. Balakrishna Menon displayed an innate curiosity and intelligence from a young age.

His life took a profound turn during a chance encounter with Swami Sivananda Saraswati, a renowned spiritual teacher. This meeting had a transformative effect on him, leading him to embrace a life dedicated to spirituality and self-realization.
